After sharing my tried and tested organizing tips in part 2 of this home blog series, it is only fitting that we follow it up with our walk-in closet because it is where all of those organizing hacks had been applied.
Our walk-in closet is a shared-space by me and Daddy S, thus it is important that both our preferences be considered in designing. It is a small space, and we really do not need that much. As of writing of this blog, there are still cabinets in there that remains to be empty.
We worked closely with our cabinet-maker (who also made Hendrix’s storage) to come up with the cabinetry that is customized to our lifestyle and needs. Once again, they did an impeccable job.
Daddy S prefers that his frequently used clothes are within sight, so his side has shelves instead of drawers. His clothes are sorted using baskets. I did away with the handwoven ones made of fibers like abaca or seagrass because it has the tendency to grab the hem or thread of the clothes especially the knits. If in the future he will have more folded shirts, I will just put some risers and additional baskets.
As for my clothes, I prefer to keep them on closed cabinets and drawers to prevent myself from frequently arranging it, hahaha! For my hanged clothes, I arrange them depending on how I associate them with; for dresses it is sleeve length, for blouses it is by color.
For our folded clothes, we sort it by function or by wear. Those that are usually worn together are stored in one drawer or basket. This makes everything efficient for us. Also, if you notice, my drawers are arranged by frequency of use; those that I wear often are at the top (such as my lounge clothes) and those at the bottom are those that I hardly use (such as my swimwear).
For shoes and bags, Sherwin’s sneaker collection is displayed separately though we have a space for it in the walk-in closet. As for me, I really do not keep a lot. I tend to be “loyal” to a shoe and bag, using it over and over again until it gets worn out, thus the reason why I do not tend to accumulate a lot. When I have a new one, you will see me on it in almost all possible occasions possible; to work, to church, when we travel, maybe even to special occasions if the theme matches.
For my bags, what I have now are the basics that I need of varying sizes. Currently, I do not use leather bags often because I prefer the ones that I can wash after use thus I am so into canvas bags. My favorites are from We Merch It Co.
For my shoes, I have, at the most, two of each type. By the way, the shoe boxes are from Lazada. I love that it matches our theme!
Have you seen my favorite cabinet? Was it something that you expected? That space really brought me so much joy!
Our walk-in closet shows who we are as a couple; our personalities, our dynamics. I hope that by taking you on a tour here, you were able to get to know us a little bit more , and also I hope you were able to find some inspiration especially on how you can organize your space.
