Home Series #2: Hendrix’s room + some organizing tips!

In today’s blog, I will be taking you to the most colorful part of our home, Hendrix’s room!

If you have seen part 1 of my blog, our foyer gives an overview of the Scandinavian theme for our home.  The great thing about having a theme is that it became our guide in designing each room. Also, since we did not hire an interior designer, it can be overwhelming to create a look for each space, as there are a lot of inspirations available in various platforms. Having a theme gave us certain limitations which helped us narrow down our options.

When we were designing Hendrix’s room, we wanted to keep it within the theme yet make it fun and exciting. His room serves as his learning space, so we wanted to incorporate bright colors to stimulate learning.

Before we can put it colors, the crucial part was storage. We wanted a big floor space since his room is mainly used as a therapy room because all his physical and occupational therapies are done here. It was great that we found a cabinetmaker, Richard’s Furniture Shop who, was not only able  to execute our storage design in mind, but also adhered to our minimalist goal of clean lines and neutral tones.

Once the built-in cabinets were in place, everything else just followed. Now, all his things have its proper home. It was much easier to have a systematic storage by sorting items based on its function. I would like to know your thoughts on how we arranged the items inside the cabinet!

Efficiency is also my main goal in organizing our home. Having labels and containers makes it easy to identify and sort items. The labels and clips in Hendrix’s room are from Mayfair & Co. while baskets and bins I bought from Neetly and Basketry Home. We also repurposed boxes, not only in Hendrix’s room but all over the house, as storage

For the rest of the workspace, we have the minimalist playmat and the padded wallpaper which are all necessary to make it a safe area for Hendrix to explore.

To complete the learning setup, we have the blackboard wallpaper (wherein we use liquid chalk) and tilting benches.

We then carefully added items that combine aesthetics, function and even color, such as the pompom basket that houses Hendrix’s therapy cushions, the white standing mirror, and my personal favorite, the rainbow pillow that I purchased from my friend’s online store YM & Pyo. Oh and the scandi drawers and caddy? Those are old pieces that have been with us for years! I just love how it perfectly blended into Hendrix’s room!

I hope that you found useful some organizing tips that I shared in the video. Those really helped me a lot which is why moving in was not that stressful for me.

How did you find Hendrix’s room? I would love to know your thoughts on it! Also please feel free to share your own organizing tips. Let us learn from each other!

See you on part 3 of this series!
