Yoga was in my checklist of must-try workout this year. Truth be told, I was intimidated with it. Prior to the pandemic, I used to watch in awe the yogis in the gym. I keep telling myself that I want to try it but felt ashamed to actually join a class because everyone seems to good already. Until one day, I finally mustered up enough courage to attend the class. You know what, I was not so bad at all! I intend to join the next week’s class but then I stopped going to the gym because of covid-19 and soon after the lockdown followed.
Today on International Yoga Day, allow me to say that now that I am now fully committing myself to the practice. I find myself always going back to the mat.
One of the best decisions I had prior to the quarantine was to attend that yoga class in the gym. It started me off with the basics. It gave me the confidence to try home practice without the fear of injuring myself. During the lockdown, I made a commitment to workout daily and Wednesdays are for Yoga. I feel so blessed for coming across Yoga with Adriene in Youtube. I love how Adriene is so encouraging and so positive; always reminding us to find what works for our body, to focus on the sensation and not merely on the form. From once a week on the mat, now i had been doing Yoga practices 3-4 times a week.
I love what yoga has done not only to my physique , but more so to my overall well-being. I usually only have 30-minutes a day alloted for exercise, and those minutes spent in yoga allows me to reconnect with myself. In a busy day with work schedule and taking care of my family, those 30 minutes of self-care worked wonder for my mental and emotional health. It has also helped eased out my anxieties during the lockdown.
I still have a long way to go in my yoga journey and I am looking forward to learning more. Each day is an opportunity to discover more about myself and the energy I can give into this world.
Namaste.
