My Reading List: The Little Prince

In today’s post, I will be sharing with you my thoughts on one of my all time favorite, “The Little Prince”. This children’s classic is written from the point of view of a pilot as he recalls his encounter with The Little Prince whom he met in a remote planet. The book  basically talks about the life lessons that the pilot learned from the Little Prince’s short but memorable moments with him.

What I like most about this book is it’s simplicity. The cover, story line and even the illustrations were matched perfectly to depict lack of complexity with the way the Little Prince views life. It is like peeking through the mind of a child. Oftentimes we dismiss on how simple things are for them and wish that as adults dealing with “adult” situations and concerns, things are as easy as the way they see it. But reading the Little Prince made we think that life can be simple. Life can be uncomplicated.

I have this book for quite some time now and have read it countless times. When life gets too hectic, I read this book and somehow it helps me regain my balance.. my focus on what really matters in my life. Joanne, a friend of mine described the whole Little Prince reading experience.  She said that The Little Prince is a book that you need to read at different points in your life. Your interpretation of the book will vary depending on where you in your life when you read it. I totally agree with her.

The Little Prince is also special to me because it is the book that I read to my son Hendrix whenever I visit him in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). It became our bonding moment. Whenever I read to him, it felt like I was taking a trip with him away from the halls of NICU and we explore the world of The Little Prince. It helped me get through a lot of hard days in the NICU.

I will definitely recommend having  The Little Prince in your reading list. It is something that I hope you can read with your kids too. It will be a good learning experience for both of you to also ask how they feel about the parts that you read to them. You will be amazed with the wisdom that your children will impart on you. If you do, I would love to know about that moment with your child. Please feel free to comment and share your reading experience.

To end let me just quote this line from Constance Zimmer.. “Seeing the world through the eyes of a child is the purest joy that anyone can experience.”
