It has been a yearly tradition for our family to have Visita Iglesia every Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. We do it two nights in a row just so our kids, EA and Little H won’t get tired from driving from one church to another. It was something that we always look forward to, and this year, I already planned the churches we will visit and our itineraries for those two days.
However, our plans made a 360 shift when Little H got sick which started on Palm Sunday morning. He had raging fever of 39.3C but we can not seem to see any obvious cause like cough or colds. We initially thought that it was Tonsilitis but then I scratched the idea since he was eating so well. Monday came and still fever is on and off despite taking paracetamol. We visited his pedia, taking with us the results of his urinalysis which also showed normal results. His pediatrician, Dra. Tita Villanueva-Uy, having been Little H’s pedia since he was born, was also concerned about his fever. The usual suspect, pneumonia, is of the running since his lungs are clear. Thus, she ordered for a complete blood count (CBC) that night. We got the result the following morning which showed that his platelets are way below than normal range. She asked that we had it repeated the following day, and we did. It was alarming how quickly his platelets dropped in just 36 hours. She then asked to take Little H to the hospital. Her hunch is correct, our little boy has Dengue fever.
My Dearest Son Heinel,
Happy, happy birthday! Oh how wonderful it is to be eight, isn’t it? We approach this day with nothing but pure gladness and gratitude in our hearts. Looking at you now, I can not help but be proud of myself and Dad for we feel that we have done a wonderful job so far on being your parents. You are such a kind, sweet, loving, happy and understanding young man. Credits could not all go to us, son for you are raised and loved by an entire family made up of not just me and Dad, but also your Tito, Tita and Grandma. You are a reflection of the love given to you by all of us.
As year 2015 comes to a close, I can not help but look back on what this year has been to us. For me, it has been a year of milestones, achievements, adventures and new beginnings.
Disneyland was our major destination when we traveled to Hong Kong briefly. It was an adventure exclusively for me and EA. Today I will gladly share our experience and some helpful tips to make your Disneyland trip more exciting.
From July to October 2015, Little H attended the Cuddle and Bounce class at Kindermusik in Capitol Hills (near Ayala East Side village). Cuddle and Bounce is the program for kids six months to 2 years old. This is ideal for kids who are already crawling or those who just started walking.
Allow me to share my observations of Kindermusik class that we attended. Please note that this is applicable only to the one that attended in Capitol Greenstreet and not of the entire Kindermusik franchise.
For our Sunday family activity, we decided to visit Dreamplay, an educational amusement center by Dream Works, located at City of Dreams in Manila. The amusement center mainly features well loved characters from Shrek, Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda and Dinotrux. Unlike most theme parks, Dreamplay does not have exciting rides or thrilling booths. But rather, they have different activities to awaken the mind and body of the kids and the kids-at-heart.
Below are some tidbits about our family experience, and some tips on how to make the most of your visit to Dreamplay.
A day in which it is both a holiday and a rainy day can both mean ultimate boredom for my kids. As a mom, it is a challenge for me on how to keep them off gadgets like Ipad or game consoles. This week, I decided to engage my son into baking! No, I am definitely not a pro when it comes to baking. We just bought some ready made brownie mix from the grocery store. The good thing about these ready made boxes is that you can be 75% sure of the taste. The 25% will depend on how you will strictly follow the remaining instructions and ingredients.
It is so easy to get EA excited into baking, and I guess most kids are. Why? Because it is something new. As soon as I told him that we will baking our snack for the day, he can hardly wait. He prepared the ingredients himself!
From the time EA was in preschool until now that he is in big school, I am often asked by fellow parents who live in our area as to whether his school, Creative Explorers School for Children, is a good (progressive) pre-school. EA started at the age of 3, and for me, that is relatively young because in my time I took preschool when I was 6. Given his young age, it was important for me that he will be in a school where he will be guided in all aspects and not just in academics. EA was with them for 3 years and I have nothing but good words for the school. Here are my major reasons why we love Creative Explorers (CE).
