Getting Crafty this Christmas

Every year, I look forward to decorating the house for Christmas. I have always wanted a home full of lights and decors because it serves as clear indication of the great festivity and celebration that we are about to celebrate on the 25th of December. For the past years, the focus has always been the Christmas tree and the lights. But since we already have a sturdy tree and I think the decors are enough, I decided to make this year’s project, a garland for our front gate.

Merriam-Webster defines garland as a circular or spiral arrangement of intertwined material (as flowers or leaves). I have always wanted one for our door or gate.

However, when I checked out the prices from the mall of fully made up garlands, it was so expensive. This is why I decided to just make our own garland. The bare garland measuring 9-feet is just around P600 ($13).  Since this year our Christmas tree motif is blue and silver, all the red tree decors were not used. The only additional items that i bought are just the big red poinsettia flowers at at P100 ($2.30) and christmas lights which are priced at P600 too.

I started with the red beads which I wrapped around the green garland. To secure the hold, I used these green light wire.

For the Christmas balls, i grouped them in 3s for the side decors and a big chunk for the center piece. Again, it was secured by the green wire.

I hope you like the end result. I am quite happy with this one and I am thinking of having a DIY decor project every year. Not only is it practical, it also makes the decor personal. Next year I will include my boys (husband and kids) in this project.

Have you started putting up Christmas decorations too? Do you have DIY projects that you want to share with me?
