Bye Bye Crib, Hello Bed!

My Hendrix is 2 years old, and he is starting to outgrow his crib. He is getting cranky in it because he hardly has room to move. He and his brother Heinel are not big enough to share a room yet so he has to stay in his room for now. But the crib has to go really soon. I initially thought of getting him a bed but scratched the idea altogether because he will not be able to rollover much in it, since it is rectangular shaped. Also, I do not think an elevated bed will work from him since aside from rolling over, he is also into crawling backwards nowadays and I do not want to increase the chances of him falling off the bed.

After a lot of thought, I decided to get him a cushion, instead of a bed. I was inspired by a local celebrity couple who never bought a crib for their child; just a custom made square mattress which the baby used from the time he was born, until now that he is 2 years old. There are no bed frames, just the thick cushion or mattress with several child safety barriers on the side. The tricky part on this is that, the size that I want has to be custom made since it is not a standard size sold in the department stores. Good thing  there is an online store that does custom made mattresses and I was delighted to know that the exact size of a foam cushion that I want can be done. They have a wide selection of custom made cushion and mattress to choose from. Below are some of their most popular items:

What I like most about it is that there is no limit as to the size. I am thinking of getting the standard mattress or cushion but I am also exploring boat mattress.

The transition from the crib to a bed is a milestone that I am very excited about. I can not wait to start putting together his room, starting with the bed. My little boy is a baby no more!
